Default Removing 08 roadking fuel tank

I am going to have my tank painted and was wondering how difficult of a job it would be to remove the tank ...anything I should know or do when taking it off? or should I take it to the dealer thanks

You should be fine with basic wrenching skills, I took the top off mine, tapped everything off for paint and left all the EFI stuff inside. Put it back together and 8k miles still working perfect. Get the manual its always helpful to have, $64 well spent.

first you have to rent a 90 lb jack hammer, Smith 90 compressor, and a 6' pry bar.....then have at it.

Actually....very easy on the 08's....no crossover line to mess with. Just drain the tank, and remove the line going to the petcock by pulling up or down on the retainer ring and then pull the line out. It has a auto shut off valve in the petcock, so the fuel will not come pouring out when you remove the line. Then just lift up and to the rear.
If your too nervous about it....just buy a 08 service manual....it tells you step by step how to do it.

Seriously use it once to save labor from HD and it pays for its self.
