Also the SE kit is not a bad one but you need to switch out the crappy paper filter with a K&N.
Not to be argumentative, but it appears that the SE stage I AC comes with a washable filter unit (page 505 of the '09 parts manual, part number 29260-08). Given that the filter wouldn't have to be immediately replaced, would this then make the SE kit a better deal at $140?

Thanks for your help with this!

A correction of my earlier post:

The SE Stage I air cleaner is available for $112.

Which is the best bang for the buck?
.

If you search online, one of the forums has a list posted of the individual parts for the SE air cleaner assembly. Purchase the parts you need separately, minus the filter element, and then buy a K&N element part # HD-0800. You'll spend less money than the packaged SE unit and you'll have a better element.

That may be your "best bang for the buck".

If I had it to do over again, I'd go with the Doherty.

The current SE filter is washable but it is not an oiled filter like the K&N. I have seen posts where people said their filter came apart.

If you want simple go with what Neckball suggested..."Purchase the parts you need separately, minus the filter element, and then buy a K&N element part # HD-0800. You'll spend less money than the packaged SE unit and you'll have a better element."

Folks;

Ran across an article that is making me take a harder look at the Doherty AC. It's not JUST about increasing flow -- straightening it out helps, too. Check it out:
