Default Battey Leads for Tender & Heated Gear

Does anyone know of an adapter that allows you to use one set of battery leads for both the HD heated gear and the HD battery tender? Seems that would be easier than having two sets of wires.

i have the two wire set up, and HD sells the adaptor so you can use the same wire for heated gear and the battery tender.

I went back and forth last year trying to solve this problem. Harley does in fact sell an adapter that will work. It's one of the adapters for connecting the new single plug gear into the old dual plug gear. Ultimately, I didn't like the extra length of the adapter, and just re-wired the on/off switch that came with the vest liner.

I was going to do the same thing. However then I wired the heated gear outlet direct to the battery, ran the cable through the slot in the seat for the back rest. During a 3800 mile trip out west it worked really well, the cable was easy to reach when needed. When it wasnt needed it can be tucked away cleanly.

My battery lead is located under the seat near the engine.

The battery tender uses a 7.5 amp fuse. I run the heated gloves and looked at my options and decided that gloves that short out at 3 amps required their own fuse. I run two harnesses even though it is a bit of a hassle.

There is a 6 inch adaptor available from HD that allows you to use one pigtail for both the Electric gear and the Battery Tender.

I installed the pigtail from the Heated Gear, and the adaptor allows me to add the 6 inch lead and connect the Battery Tender.

Controller Adapter Plug

Use this plug to connect the two prong plugs to the new coaxial plug.

MSRP US $6.00

Smile Battery Tender and Heated Gear

I used the "Pants Adaptor" that HD Gerbings sells. It has a female coaxial plug rather than a male like the "control adaptor". If you can make the connection, either one will work.

By the way, HD Gerbing says explicitly in the manual not to use with the Battery Tender lead. They work fine. Just use the correct fuse for your application.

It's just a 2 wire trailer plug...almost any auto parts store will have them.

Of course I am down here in Texas. But I just ride it and not worry about the battery tender. That way I have to worry about the one wire for the electrical gear.

I have the battery tender without the HD logo but I believe the two pin (trailer) connector is the same. I have Gerbing gloves with the coax plug. I went to Radio Shack and made a 3" adapter to plug the coax into the trailer plug. Other than dropping it once when getting off my bike it works fine using the battery tender plug for heated gear. It connects directly to the battery like the Gerbing instructions only I don't need two connectors hooked to the battery.
