Default 2009 National HOG Rally in Oklahoma City

I see from the back of the current HogTails the 2009 National HOG Rally will be in Oklahoma City on June 25th and 26th.

So people from the Oklahoma City area, tell us the great things in your city to see and do. The good and the bad. The little hole in the wall places to eat, etc.

Usually we have some of the ladies in the group that fly in and meet their other halves. Looking at flights into Oklahoma City the rates are steep, do you all use the Oklahoma City airport or do you drive to save money?

There are allot of things to see downtown/Bricktown and allot of good places to eat down there. Things to see, we have prof Basketball, AAA baseball, Hockey, Horse racing a couple casinos, cowboy museum...go to the state tourist site and they will send you a tone of maps and brochures.

When I was in school in Norman, OKC had some of the best gentlmens club around. If after 25 years they are still there everyone will have to add that to their list of things to see while in town.

There is Historic Route 66 with all kinds of "hole in the wall" places to see. Here is a new place built on Route 66 that is pretty cool to stop in and see...

Well, a little late but better than never. Oklahoma City is really the only place to fly into that's close. Tulsa is your other option and that's a hour and a half drive.

I live in Edmond (about 10 min north of OKC) and I've grown up here. Here is a list of things to do and see (and not do and not see) If any members want to meet up, let me know. I have a group of 3-4 of us that ride on a regular basis and we'd love to show you the town!

Where to eat

There's an area about 10 minutes north called Memorial Road - This area has all the standard eateries (Chili's, IHOP, etc.) but there are a couple of good bars on that strip as well. Some to look for include: Baker's Street and Thunder Roadhouse Cafe - This is a Big Dog shop that has a bar and off track horse betting there. The food is good and there's always a lot of bikes to be found. http://www.okcthundercycles.com/

One of the cool little hole in the wall bars to hit is Henry Hudson's located on NW Expressway behind the On The Border restaurant. A little tricky to get there but always a lot of fun (pool, darts, music, and biker friendly)

Actual good restaurants are scattered all over OKC but a few that I can recommend is Bricktwon Brewery (located in Bricktown) http://www.bricktownbrewery.com/, Cattlemen's restaurant (don't miss this one) http://www.cattlemensrestaurant.com/ this is a great spot for steak and located just minutes from Bricktown and the Fairgrounds. If you like seafood, try Pearl's restaurant or The Trapper's both owned by the same company but good food. http://www.funfresh.com/

If you like BBQ, there are several to choose from. There's Rib Crib (standard), but Earl's Ribs is a great place and they're all over the city. http://www.earlsribpalace.com/ (VERY BIKER FRIENDLY)

For bars... take your pick. There is a ton of GREAT biker friendly bars. Basically, follow the bikes...

In terms of what to see:

- National Memorial OKC Bombing - A beautiful memorial and place to come see what happened April 19th, 1995. The museum attached is a great walkthrough as well.

- The National Cowboy Hall of Fame - Great place to see great artwork, history and designs by great artists - www.nationalcowboymuseum.org

- Pop's - This is a throwback to the old 50's style diner and located on Route 66 out to Arcadia - This is a great ride, good food and a hustle bustle place. The wait is typically long but the scenery is great for the ride out there. http://pops66.com/

These are just a few of the things I can think of but I'm sure I'll add more later. I will update as I think of them (and have time) up until the actual event. Anyone coming here will love the friendly nature of the people that live here and their willingness to help or make suggestions. If you have questions or if you'd like to meet up, e-mail me at e.richardson@mac.com

I'll be happy to help out. I called HOG to find out about registration and it wasn't very helpful. So I'll make myself available to anyone that has questions. We look forward to seeing you in June!!!

Thanks E.R. for all the great info and links. Planning on riding up myself & will be making a copy of your post beforehand. I had no problem registering online. You do have to be registered to get onto the H.O.G. website though.

Me and the wife are registered and will be traveling about 1800 miles the route we are taking from Ct. Thanks E.Richardson for the sugestions, i'm sure If I see an Earl's, i'll be stopping!

monstead, we will probably be traveling into Tx as well. Do you know if Strokers Dallas is worth stopping at? I do like Fairless's bikes and if it is worth the stop for pics or souvoniers I would be interested.

Glad the links helped you! Oh, if you're coming in through the state I wanted to give you a couple of great Harley shops I can recommend (in case anybody needs anything)

Harley Davidson World: www.harleydavidsonworld.com

I-40 and Rockwell. The one on I-40 is a GREAT stopping area if you're coming in westbound on the highway. There's a Buffalo Wild Wings www.buffalowildwings.com There's also a ton of shopping right in that same area to grab anything you need from a Home Depot to Wal-Mart

I didn't mention hotels but a few that I can easily recommend are the hotels in the area:

There's some great hotels in all price ranges on Memorial Road in Oklahoma City. I've already set up a search for you, click here to see the results.

Basically if you go to I-40 and Meridian, there are over 15-20 hotels ranging from $59 a night to $159 a night. The plus is that there are many restaurants on Meridian and the whole area is 5 minutes from the fairgrounds and 10 minutes from Bricktown

I did a Google search for you. Click here and I'll do the rest

Hotel areas in the pricey range include: anything by Bricktown or downtown Oklahoma City.

Just a few things I thought of. Let me know if you need any other assistance. OH, I'd love a chance to meet some of the posters on this group. If you do get a chance, let me know where and when you'll be around and I'll PM you my contact info...

Most definitely! If I were you, I'd try and go on the weekend and plan on hanging out a bit as Strokers is probably the most "popular" biker bar in Dallas. I say bar, because on the property next to the store, is the Strokers Ice House. Even if you don't party, you can pick up a good burger. It's pretty much always full of bikers...mostly Harley, eating and drinking and shooting the sh**. On the weekends, it's quite busy and there is often entertainment. When I see bikes heading west down NW Hwy on the weekends, I know where they're headed. I'm pretty sure their website has info on it. The store itself has plenty of choppers to check out. No problem picking up a t-shirt or souvineir. Rick is a very unassuming and friendly guy...there is a good chance he'll be there. I actually bought a little used Honda Shadow to learn on from them and as a part of the "tour", they introduced me to him & we chatted a bit. I had no idea he was such an icon - lol! He's just a regular guy.
