Default 1998 Ultra EFI to CARB conversion

Can anyone direct me to information on DIY EFI to Carb conversion. The local performance shops want $3000. to do it and I'll probably never have it. Is there a kit or instructions somewhere?

Welcome to the forum!!! I must ask, why do you want to change from EFI to carb?

If you've ever owned a bike with MM EFI and needed work done, you'd understand. Nobody wants to work on those things. 100% PITA.

Follow me on this one....

The guy that sells magnacharger superchargers for harleys......he sells a carb conversion kit for harleys. Don't know his e-mail......do a little searching on google and give him a call. He's in California.

Here you go. This is another thread on the same topic. I sent those guys a excel file with the parts list I used for my 01 conversion. Had I known it was going to be that easy I would have done it years earlier.

Default Thank You

Thanks to all for your response. It's sounding a little intimidating so far. I have mechanic inclinations but not alot of experience.

Bluesman, the reason for the swap is that it is progressively going out on me. It runs great until it warms up and then starts sputtering at low RPM. A guy in Reno told me it is common with the 98's. and if I switch to carb the world will be a better place. I just want to ride without fear of breaking down somewhere. I actually dropped it once in a slow corner with wife attached, when it just stalled for no good reason. No serious injuries.

P. Wee the conversion is a cake walk. I had more time in research than I did actual work time. I may have spent a morning converting it and the afternoon jetting the carb.

This shouldn't be that difficult. The first two things I would think you would need are a 1998 HD Service Manual and Parts Manual.
You'll need to change the interconnect wiring harness from and EFI model to a Carb model. I'd then compare the wiring diagram for each and make sure the sensors are the same. They probably are....

Other option, keep the EFI and add a Powercommander.

Your problem with the MM FI is not terminal. As suggested, add a Power Commander and find a good Indy, not just "some guy in Reno".

The carb conversion is easy, but it will cost about 350.00 or so for the parts. I have a list i can send you later when i get home.

Good luck i love my carb.
