Default Street Glide Fairing Mirror Removal?

Has anyone removed their Fairing Mounted Mirrors on a SG? If so, what did you use to plug the holes left in the Fairing?

If I was to do that, I would purchase (ebay) a non Street Glide inner fairing and swap it out with the Street Glide inner fairing, and then sell the old one on ebay. While I was at it I would have it painted, before I put it on.(don't forget the faring cap if your going to paint it). It takes a couple of hours to swap out, if you are mechanical.

Default Thanks for the replys.

I have already painted the inner fairing before I realized the 13" Apes would position the switch housings in the middle of the fairing mirrors. An over sight on my part for sure. It was $300.00 to paint the inner fairing, so I'm trying to avoid that expense again. lol

Check a home center for plastic plugs. They're available in different sizes.

Well, all is not lost, you could still get the non Street Glide inner fairing, paint it, install, then take your used painted inner fairing and put it on ebay, and get most of your money back for the painted fairing, as long as its not odd color. if its black you should still get some good coin for it. Heck you could throw it on the classifieds here, I'm sure there is someone that is looking for a painted inner fairing. Myself, I would hate to see a nice painted fairing with some odd looking plugs on it. Of course if you could find something useful to put into the holes that would be a different story. JMHO

i just took mine off about 2 weeks ago and Lowe's had some rubber groment plugs. if i remember correctly the 3/16th ones fit the 3 small holes perfectly and the 1/4 fit the center ones. cost about $5

Hoodlum, Thanks for the info! And, thanks to all you other guys for your input.

I did see a really nice plug that Eddy Trotta made to cover the holes in the fairing on his personal SG. I called his shop and the guy I talked to said, "They would not make me a set". Too small of a job for the big bucks builders I guess. lol

Harley or Hoodlum,
If either of you would like to sell your fairing mirrors, let me know because I'm looking for a set
