2000 Electra Glide with 100,000 miles - would you buy it??

.....say WHAAAATTT???...100,000 on an air-cooled Twin..I'd say it's real close to bottom-end overhaul time....these engines, like any other engine, don't last forever...now if you can wrench, and you get an Ultra for 7-8K, and spend 3K and do it up with a 103 and cams...we'll then it might be not such a bad deal...

Either way, You'll be tinkering with it or pull out the hard earned cash out of the bank for the necessary repairs whatever the bike needs.
In my case, No to the 100,000 mile bike as I will buy an used low mileage bike by asking the previous owner to take the bike to HD Shop and have it throughly inspected before spending the money.
With my recent purchase on '09 Ultra, I'm going to keep it as long as I can and see how many miles I can rack up before getting a new bike again.

http://raleigh.craigslist.org/mcy/1003886770.html 96 EGC $8900 with just 43k on the clock, and I've begun to see such at least every once in a while.... so? yeah... they are dropping in price

WAIT for my bike. I generally trade around 25k miles (always under 30k) for a brand new one, as I feel I get my best trade in deal around that mileage and that way I don't have to face any wrenching. I have 9k on it now. The newer bikes have so much more quality improvements after about 2005. HD went to a heavier rear axel bolt about then.

[QUOTE=karz10;4428716]you can of course search for prices on ebay, cycletrader, chopperexchange, etc., but in case you're interested to do a multi-city search on craigslist, which is very hard to do using their site directly, try this: www.craigshelper.com

The 2000 twin cam was prone to inner cam bearing failures. Knowing this, if I were going to buy that bike, I would plan on the additional cost of going through the motor, changing out the cam bearings, converting to gear drive cams (but crank run out would have to be within acceptable limits, which it most likely is)
