Default Harley workers OK new labor contract

I just read this on the local news site. I am glad they are staying here, but I'm not sure everybody is.

Good on us!!! Would be a terrible thing for them to move the rest of their operations out of the state. Now maybe the MoCo will focus on some R&D and styling in earnest.

Maybe the Motor Company is getting a little back from the Union Fat Cats that have negotiated unfair labor contracts over the years? It's not always the working man getting screwed.

Perhaps the union workers' contract was paying far above industry standard for this type of labor? There are always two sides...

I do not understand how you can claim the working man got screwed again??? Most of them got to keep their job, and for that they should be thankful. At what point does an employer owe anything to an employee except for a wage for the work that was performed? Those people were not "owed" anything, nor should they be guaranteed to keep a job.

Without the management to keep the company profitable, those "workers" would be working on nothing! It is about time these unions get back to reality and stop destroying the American workforce by lining their pockets and hanging the group they are supposed to be protecting "out to dry".

This country was founded on a free market place and I am tired of the media and a bunch of socialist liberals making "profit" into a bad name. I am glad things worked out for HD and they are able to stay in Milwakee, but would have also stood by their decision to relocate to a friendlier state, and a right to work state.

I too am happy they are staying but the contract they signed is ****. 7 year wage freeze???? I'm tired of all these companies taking advantage of the middle class. They're just following in the big 3's footsteps of screwing the workers while the shareholders and white shirts reap the huge rewards. I'll bet my paycheck the price of the bikes won't come down.

Even though their wages might be frozen. I will be willing to bet that they did not loose any benefits (vacation, medical, severance, retirement plans etc).

How can anybody expect sumthing that is being produced here in the states to come down in price? Not gonna happen

First of all, the "friendlier" state you refer to is in China or Mexico. In addition to slave wages, large manufacturers also like "right to pollute" states. It's so much cheaper to chrome (nickle plate) metal pieces when you don't have the EPA on your back.

Do you want to have to constantly rebid for your job, what ever it is? How about if Disney World starts staffing with short term Chinese labor at 50 cents an hour plus room and board? Who cares when they kill a few tourists with lax safety and mainanance. With all the money they can save they can afford the law suits.

For a fact, having been in a multitude of manufacturing environments, I don't recall meeting many management types that understand how to do anything resembling run a profitable business. I've really been wondering lately what the per capita sales are like for H-D between right to work and union states.
