Yeah, I've played with the timing in the area of the ping but all it seemed to do was make the bike sluggish and run hotter. How much did you retard it? Did you carry it all the way up through the power band?

Glad you're happy with the cam change, sounds like it was a needed improvement.
Here in Alabama almost all the roads/highways have lots of hills and some of the inclines are very long-several miles. With the stock gearing and cams downshifting is a big help but at 80 mph I would need to drop my speed to do so. I was interested in not needing to down shift. I like my 44-52 mpg.
The cost was $299 for cams,$139 for adjustable push rods w/chrome covers and $200 for the install
In order to remove the push rods there are 2 basis ways:
1) remove the heads
2) cut the push rods
I decided it was cheaper to but the adjustable push rods.
Now if I want to go further with the build I just need to get the cylinders and pistons with head work.
It's easier to to it in stages.
It will be a while if at all before I go to the 103
I am very content like it is now.
I did have to remap my fuelpak
I have not noticed any pinging since the cam change
I Have no pinging , is it related do not know.

I just had the stage 1 and 255 cams installed on my '09 TriGlide. What a difference! I had the same problem with hill and lugging, but no more!

Default SE 255 Cams

My bike was a 96" when I bought it in '08, one of the first 2009 Street Glides to hit the floor, I had Rhinehart's and a SC Heavy Breather, big difference over stock. That winter I took the bike to Jim Egizio at Il HD and he recommend the 103 kit to me. When I bought my bike Zylstra tried to sell me a 110 upgrade for $,9,500 that would give me 110lb's tq and 92hp!! I passed, not a lot of bang for the buck, to say the least!
When Jim was done, I had 112lb's tq & 95hp, he did a little head work, very light he said.
Great numbers, the 255's are rough on starter's though!
I'm a big guy, the bike ran great, a friend had a 103 from a different dealer, different pipes and I would walk away from him, he was very frustrated! His next bike he had a 106 when he bought it. It ran great, I still beat him, I went to a 113 that winter and forgot to tell everyone!!!
I love my 113"!!!!

Having the SE255 cams and the other mods listed below, I find it hard to believe that a touring bike going 50mph in 6th gear (lugging) with two people aboard uphill can accelerate quickly. I know I have a 96 and their's are 103 but it's still hard to believe. My 6th gear is useless unless I'm between 65-70mph.

Really, why would you want to be uphill twisties and curves in sixth anyway?

My Andrews 21's were a huge improvement in my torque also. But I just got back from the Rockies and I still would downshift on long inclines. I guess that is why I have 70k on the bike and it still runs like new.

I had similar results with my 54's. I had head work and TTS also. 96 and 96 hp and tq. I have 45000 miles on it now, and I love the way it run now. I only get around 39 mpg with this crappy gas we got here, but only got 40 before the cam change, so I'm happy. And that's what counts. My dyno guy said I could get more tq with a better exhaust system. I have decatted head pipes and American Custom slip-on. I'm not going to spend another grand for a few more #'s.

With the right tune you can use 6th gear all the way down to 45 with a stock cam. No jump or jerk. Granted it doesn't accelerate very strong until about 60. I am using a PV and use 6th for all running 50 up. Smooth and never a ping. I am not using a canned tune though. It works with stock cam and TW222 and other cams. Not the same VE maps but same timing map.

Default Cam

Is the SE255 cam "gear driven". (New to term of these newer cams). Want to upgrade my stock 09'FLHXI. 6th Gear is definitely weak. Thanks
