Default 2009 Ultra, 103 Upgrade, Yes or No?

Hello,

I posted a similar question yesterday with a title dealing with the Mufflers. I did receive a couple of answers and have decided on the Mufflers for sure.

I have a new 2009 Ultra on order and have begun compiling my list of needed additions.
I am contemplating the following upgrade from the start:
103 Cubic Inch
Factory Download
Kuryakyn Crusher Mufflers

My dealer is quoting around $1800 for a SE 103 kit with the factory download, all parts and labor included.

Anyone done an upgrade like this?
Do you like the 103 upgrade?
Is the price reasonable?

I want to do something that won't void my warranty. Once the warranty is off then I will get more radical with the engine.

Thanks for the advice!

If you want more power than stock I would add the 103 now so it will be covered under the 2 year warranty. At $1800 they aren't giving you a bargain. The 103 kit with A/C list for $899.95, they should give you something off that for buying the bike. That leaves a lot of labor charges in that $1899. Most folks say 8-10 hours labor should do it. I added the 103 stage 2 with cams for $1400 including dyno time during the dealers winter special pricing but I already had A/C and pipes. It's usually best to negotiate the upgrades with the bike purchase that way you have more leverage. If a little more money is not an issue you may want to add a fuel management system while you are it. Most dealers cover the SERT under warranty. You'll have more power plus a better running and cooler bike. Sorry if this is more info than you ask for.

Thanks for the replies thus far.

More information:
This is for the Stage II with cams.
The price does not include pipes. I am installing Kuryakyn mufflers myself.
The price includes incidentals, the kit, new oil and filter, factory download and installation. The price includes 11.5 hours at $65 per hour with parts discounted 15%, total is $1733

I a word yes do the 103 upgrade but I would reccoment a SERT or something over the download to help with heat issues.

tell them you don't want the flash down load - take the 150 + they charg for that and get a pcv from fuelmoto with a map for your build in it already - you will be dollars ahead cause you will be buying a tuning device later anyways if you dont now

As Uniondog said, you will want a PCV or Sert of some type to get the most out of the 103. Some have had hard starts when the engine gets hot after the 103. So make sure they either assure you that won't happen or have them put compression releases when it's appart. I don't think they can keep it from hot hard starts without a PC or SERT, and then some still do. It seems Some tuners can do it, some can't.

Only thing I will convey is DO NOT get the download. It is a waste of $$$$$$. It is EPA regulated, which does not help for heat or performance. PC-V or SERT/SERS is the way to go. Get cams and sprig for the compression releases.

Get the complete stage II with SERT and dyno tune. Also, to prevent possible problems later, get the compression releases drilled and installed when the heads are off. You will have a running Harley for sure.
