Default Chrome Hex Allen Head Bolts

I don't make it a habit of complaining about HD prices but every now and then I find something I just can't gag down. I'm in the final stages of installing a new clutch cable and decided to replace the 6 hex head allen bolts on the clutch release cover with chrome ones. Hd has a kit that includes all 6 chrome bolts...$54.95. Over $9.00/bolt??

There has to be a better source for these bolts.

Suggestions??????????

If you cant find them in chrome for a good price then just get stainless. Our local hardware store sells a complete selection of stainless fasteners. The stainless polishes up real easy, cant even tell the difference (other than about 10 times cheaper). If they dont carry them look up mcmastercarr.com they have every fastener you could think of. You can get them in stainless or chrome plated.

I got a kit from www.republiccycle.com that did the primary , cam cover and tranny for around $50 if I am not mistaken. Great to deal with. My kit was short two bolts and they sent them out without a hitch. Gardner Wescott

i think part of the reason is that hd is kinda like the military. give the manufacturer some outrageous specification to meet so of course its gonna cost a bunch. i haven't done a thorough search, but just for example, the derby cover bolts. hd sells them for 15 bucks for a set of 5. if you look in the parts manual it shows the specs for those bolts, 1/4 x 20 x 5/8, grade 8. grade 8? really? for a derby cover?

i'm not an engineer, nor did i stay at holiday inn express last night, but it seems to me that a grade 5 bolt would work just fine in that application.

I just did this and got all the bolts I needed for $50 which included the rocker covers, trans cover and cam covers. Gonna do the primary next. Was thinking of putting together a whole package to offer to memebers. They even have caps for the allen head bolts which finishes it off nicely.
