Does anyone know the size difference between a 1977-84 FLH hard bag compared to 1993-08 FLH hard bag? What about luggage capacity of the old bags vs the new ones? Must be some ole veterans out there with some wisdom that they can share.

 

The older bags sure look smaller.

Pretty much sums it up

 

The early bags were about 30% smaller and had a simple removable top. They were pretty primative compared to the modern ones. None of the parts are interchangable.

 

They are also fiberglass vs. ABS. Fiberglass stinks when it gets wet.

 

I am looking for a set of hard bags for the Fatboy, I have seen some pics of the newer style bag and they just look too big for my taste. Hey Biker Oma that would be great if he could get some measurements for me. That is just what I am looking for.

 

Yeah definitely smaller.....and with the earlier units (50-60's), you could have ANY color you wanted, so long as it was WHITE. Body painted color didn't come until much later in the 70's.

 

Yeah, quite a few of them simply blew off while the rider was going down the road.

 

I believe the right side bag was smaller because the battery was under the side cover. You will loose capacity and have an ugly gap at the side cover. I believe the '93 and up bags are symetrical.
