Question Clarification on clutch jam nut

I have a 2009 FLHTCU and the service manual states that after you adjust the clutch you should hold the adjuster nut while applying torque to the jam nut. How do you do that because the socket covers the adjuster screw. Is it necessary to hold adjuster screw when you torque the jam nut? Is there a special tool for this or should I just torque the jam nut without trying to figure out how to hold the adjuster screw. Any problems being created if I don't hold the adjuster nut? Appreciate any help and thanks in advance.

Use a box wrench and just tighten it.

It is best to use a long box end wrench so you can get a good torque, unless you have those socket that has a hole that goes through.

Been thinkin' about having my mechanics at work put a "dog leg" on the box end to avoid scraping the primary case.

Yes one with an offset works much better.

A crows foot wrench is the answer.

Once you make the adjustment, hold the screw in position and run the nut up snug with a box or open-end. Then take your favorite sharpie and mark the screw. Then use a socket and a torque wrench on the nut withour worrying about the screw. After you set the torque, look at your mark on the screw to verify that it (the screw) didn't move when you torqued the nut. If the screw didn't move (and it almost never does) you're good to go. If it moved, reset and next time tighten the jam nut a little more (while holding the screw) before you reach for your scoket and torque wrench.
