Did you buy the paint from hd or do a color match? And if I may ask what did you have to pay for the work?
I've been thinking about doing mine the same way, charcoal pearl of course.
Thanks Steve

The paint was purchased from HD...

By a very good friend's painter in South Carolina.

He has the same color bike as I do, and had some helmets painted to match... then I got this idea. Ran it by him, and he agreed.

I bought the Chrome Gauge ring kits, and shipped them to him, he took both of them to the painter, who did them both this way. My partner then sent mine back to me.

The painter charged $200 to do both, and the kits were $90 each, so basically I'm $190 into it, plus shipping.

Thank you for the info. I'm seeing an inner fairing removal is in my future.

For what?

The chrome gauge kit comes with the insert that I had painted.

http://www.harley-davidson.com/store/gauge-trim-kit

Anyone that uses this kit better know what you're doing before you actually do the install... you only get one chance, and if you follow the directions, you could be in for disappointment.

Off by a mere fraction of an inch, the gauge rings won't go on like they're supposed to...

Fortunately, my CDO kicked in, and I had to test fit numerous times before I exposed the adhesive, and figured it best to do the steps out of order, and install the rings first, then I knew they would line up, but there is no easy way then to attach it without 50 dry runs and relying on muscle memory.

That 3M is some good stuff....

Thank you for the info. It looks really good on your bike with the Amber Whisky. Wondering how that would look in Charcoal pearl.
Thanks again
