Oil Bud Oil Cooler
Just read an article in American Bagger Magazine about an oil cooler made by Bud's Biker Parts - budsbikerparts.net - that mounts under the motor/trans on a bagger and is controlled by a temperature regulator.
What the article leaves out is whether the unit actually cools the oil and if so by how much. Has anyone tried one of these and does it actually cool the oil? How much?
It's not a bad design although maybe a bit vulnerable underneath the engine and I don't know why the magazine would leave out such pertinent information. Seems to be an issue with both of the bagger mags.

I was wondering the same thing after reading the article. It is a good idea but wonder how well it works. I would also be concerned since it was mounted under the bike that it could be damaged by a jack when doing service or when you run over something on the road. I didn't see any of that discussed in the article either. I would be very interested on feeback from someone who had used it.

never did get the need for an oil cooler...if your moving enough to get air through the cooler your moving enough to get air to the fins in the heads and cylinders...I have well over 300,000 miles on Harleys since my first Sporty in 91 and I never ran one...
OK I'm getting off my soap box and getting a beer...

dailydriver - if you had a high performance motor or an '07 or later model you would certainly know of the need for better cooling. I have one of each and am considering an oil cooler of some sort for one or both. I haven't suffered the super high temps of the CVO's but the peace of mind could be worth the expense. Plus it's far more interesting than the "what's the best ________ for my motorcycle" threads.
