About a 1000 miles ago I started to notice a little tranny whine in 4th gear, thats the only gear it does it in,it's sorta annoying because I use 4th alot, anyway checked my tranny fluid and it was about 4 ounces low [:@], I checked the bottle of the tranny fluid I had left and it showed 12 ounces,now the dealer did my 1000 mile service so they didn't put in enought fluid to begin with, now I don't know if this is what caused this but should I worry, do any of your tranny's whine.
Also the reason I'm asking is if I call the dealer on this they will say thats normal or we don't have a problem with it, just bring it in and they will take a look at it, then after a 1 mile ride they will pull back in the lot and say it didn't do it., thats pretty much what they always say.

I ride in 4th most of the time too, and I haven't heard any noise from the gear set.

Thats nice to know that the dealer did what they were paid for[:@]

 

2006 SG...I've had 4th gear whine since new, oil level IS nad HAS been right on the mark.

Just figured it was normal?

 

Try a belt adjustment. It solved mine!

 

My belt doesn't seem to tight, actually it seems a little loose but I may be wrong.

 

No whine here but my buddies new RG has the same problem, he's getting it checked in the morning, I'll post what he finds out.

My friend who rides an 05'Electra Glide and myself who has an 05' Road King both have the 4th gear whine. It is very subtle and I don't even notice it until about mid range through the gear. The Classic I rented also had it. I was told by a local wrench, not an HD mechanic, that it is normal but I can't remember the reason for it. I wouldn't worry about it I'm coming up on 10,000 and not a problem. RR

 

Mine whines enough so I notice it now and then, but it's not so loud it's not annoying. Figure it's normal. I've got 25,000 miles on mine. I also rented a Road King Standard and it did the same. Unless it's really loud, I wouldn't worry about it. All straight shift transmissions whine in lower gears to some extent, there's a lot of gear meshing going on in there, just maybe not as loud as a Harley tranny.

 

Mine whines in 4th gear only its kind of a ringing sort of whine, I have an 06 Road King. I've posted my concern about this in the transmission section and this section about 3 weeks ago and several others said they have it as well. I'm not worried any more. Ride it like ya stole it!
