95 cu.in. verses 96 cu.in

On the subject of differences in heads between the older and newer TC engines, I've been told by reliable sources that the heads have been "cleaned up" a bit with the TC96 although I haven't seen the two together for comparison.

motor work; be forewarned, motor is relatively expensive and worst than crack; very very addictive. I have had 103, two 107's and comptemplating a 120 for the end of the year.
go to the engine section of the forum and READ, REASEARCH ask questions, do it adn do it correctly the first time.

Cheapest thing to do is lighten your bike...getting rid of the MoCo exhaust and getting a lighter better performing 2 into 1. loose the crashbar. If you only ride solo you can loose the passenger setup.
I'm betting you could easily do without 75 pounds of crap the MoCo puts on the bike...Thats almost a 10% wieght reduction..that plus a little tweaking with the aircleaner and a chip burn/fuel managment system shouldn't have to by the beers for awhile

I had the 95 in my 03 Night Train and the power curve was much higher in the RPM range. Now with my RG with the 96 I get most of the power between 2g and 4g as stated above. As far as beating your friend in a straight line race its all about how big your ***** are. If you aren't afraid of "launching" your bike at around 3.5g, then it won't even be a race. Be forwarned though. Hang on tight. Also the gear ratios are different. If your buddy has a 95 now he probably has a 5 speed. The 5 speeds had taller gears than the 96s do so he can get more out of each gear before the shift.

The factory 96 heads flow a little better then the 88. Starting in 06 or 07 there went with smaller valve guides, smaller stem on the valves and starting using the beehive valve springs that allow for a larger lift cam. The bolt pattern on the intake port is spread a little further apart also. You can buy a new flange and use either head on either motor though...

Beehive springs went on the heads in 05. Slightly raised intake port and a much larger exhaust port is the biggest difference in the 06 heads. Supposedly, in 07, the intake runner was raised again slightly. The 06 and newer heads do flow better than the earlier ones, but you need the right cam to get all the gains from it. If the heads are ported, there's not much difference
