Default Can stock exhaust be made louder

I have an 08 SG with stock exhaust. Can I make it louder by popping/drilling out the baffels? I am going to be doing a Fuel Moto next year, but I need to get through this year. It would be great to have the bike a little louder to hold me off till next spring

Thanks John

You can drill out the baffles and you might be able to get them completely out.

IMO stock pipes with drilled out or knock out baffles don't sound good. They have like a rattley hollow sound. They really don't get that much louder so don't get too high of hopes. But when I bought my RK last august I drilled my baffles out just to make it through until I could get my stage one.

My neighbor drilled and knocked out his baffles. It sounds hollow and "canny" to me. It's louder than stock for sure.

You can do it to get yourself through until you can get the Fuel Moto set up. I bought the FM set up and love it. The Jackpots and PCV give my bike a deep V8 sound.

If you are really hard up just remove the mufflers and run with the headers. I ran like this for 1400mi after the header pipes broke on the 09 (when she was 96 inches) and there were no replacements in the country. I was getting 250 miles on a tank and I was surprised that the front/underside of the bags doest get hot either. Loud enough for anyone, easy to restore to stock if the noise upsets people.

Thanks for the info. I guess I won't waste my time knocking the baffles out. Did you notice an improvement in power with FM?

I have drilled the baffles out on many bikes. It is a good way to get it louder but has side effects like what the others are saying. It all depends on what you want out of your bike, some love it others hate it.

I hated the sound when drilled mine.....ended up buying another stock set on ebay. one good thing is that you can buy a take off set for about 25.00. JMO
