Default Can I Adjust Electraglide Handlebars up?

It finally got here, my 2001 Electraglide. I put over 100 mi on it the first day I had it driving around secondary roads. Question though, trying to steer it from a stop, I turn the bars inward a little bit, and the ends of the handlebars end up in my knees. Is there a way to get under the faring and adjust the handlebars so they can be pulled/rotated upward about an inch or two?

Oh yea! Pull front of fairing off and pull out radio to get to handlebar clamps. Be sure to torque them a little more than manual calls for or they may do like mine and slip down again.

Remove outer fairing, remove 4 bolts holding radio in place, slide radio out. Remove ignition switch, remove lower fairing cap.

Now you have access to the handlebar clamp bolts.

You can get a little bit of adjustment but not much before you hit the inner fairing. You may need to look at changing the bars to achieve the feel you are needing.

I can't speak for an 01 but on my 05 you can get to the bottom handlebar clamp bolts by removing the switch console. loosen them up enough to rotate the bars and then tighten them back. I did this with mine. It's a little tight but easier than removing the radio.

I would invest in a service manual if you are going to do any wrenching. It will save you manu many $$$$'s
Enjoy and ride safe

Take a look at the distance between the bars and the inner fairing, if the distance is minimal it may not be worth the trouble to to try and adjust it.

You might be able to just give the bars a good push up, they never very tight from the factory other wise take off the switch cover, its the easiest way.

+1 on this i dont thinks its worth the effort unless your going to paint the inner fairing,or adding a radio or changeing out the bars completely!!!

I don't agree. When I go tmy 01 Ultra I thought the bars were too low to. Easiest way was mentioined. remove the accessory switch cover and ignition switch. You can get to the back two bar clamp bolts, loosening them will allow the bar to move with some effort. I would not try to force them without loosening them, they are tighter than that from the factory.
