Default Amsoil Oil Filters

Is anyone currently using Amsoil oil filters? If so, did you notice any advantage vs HD oil filters? Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks.

I have oil coolers on both the softail and Road King. I could never get an oil filter wrench that fit right on the HD filters. I now use the Amsoil filters and their wrench (cap) and have no problem.

mjmangus, if you buy a new harley filter and take it along with you to auto zone, they have a filter cup wrench that fits perfectly. it's a heavy gauge stamped steel with a 3/8" drive for your extension , ratchet, whatever you're using. and get this, they cost 3.99 go get yourself one, and you'll be very happy. i don't use anything amzoil as i want access to fluids and filters wherever i go, and there are, in any larger town at least a couple of harley dealers.

I've used them with no problems. Advantages...depends on what you're looking for. They do filter a bit finer..15 micron absolute vs. 20-25 micron.(the 5micron claim is nominal, not absolute..there is a difference). They also have a larger holding capacity. So if you're looking to extend your drain intervals past the OEM, the yes, they offer an advantage. Other filters should be changed at OEM intervals.
If just going OEM intervals or less, then the HD filter will work fine. They cost about the same.

Aside from the Amsoil having a bolt head at the end of it for easier removal and installation and the HD filter does not the fit the filter wrench being sold. Performance wise, one would have to do have their oil analize to show that type of difference.

How do you know this? HD filters spec at 5 microns (smallest particle captured by the filter element). What is the spec for Amsoil filters?

In what way does your engine know the difference? Please explain.

The amsoil filter uses a cap wrench like harley, just a different size. Its not a bolt end.
