Default Has anyone removed the wings on Ultra fairing?

I have an 09 Ultra. It came stock with the adjustable wings on either edge of the fairing. I've put about 5500 miles on the bike and have never opened or adjusted the wings. I'm thinking of just removing them as they seem to collect a lot of bugs.

Has anyone else removed them? If so, any difference noted?

Thanks,
Rick

I did, just for an experiment. They were put back on in short order! You'll get a lot more wind without 'em.

Thanks for the reply. Can you elaborate a little? I live in Southern California, so I don't mind more of a breeze. When you removed the wings, the 'more wind' you got, was it turbulant and buffeting, or just something similiar to putting on a shorter windshield?

Thanks,
Rick

i just put a set on my street glide i was getting alot of wind up under the batwing and it was jarring my head around quit a bit. mine solved my problem, i think if you take them off you'll put them back on in short order. only 8 bolts so give it a try, if you like them off just get plugs for the holes.

It's pretty simple to take them off.
4 bolts/screws on each one.
No gaskets, nuts or lock washers to worry about. Just unscrew the bolts.

It's too hot to keep 'em on in the summer.
I take mine off until fall weather so I can get the extra breeze.
It allows a bit of wind right at the shirt pockets. Perfect for keeping comfy on the 90-100 degree days.

If they're collecting bugs - where do you think they'd be without them?
I put the adjustable "08 - 09"s on my "07" and really like how you can direct some airflow. If you don't like them they can be removed easily - 4 screws each!

When you take the adjustable wings off reinstall the screws. They fill the holes and it's a good place to store the screws.

I put the adjustable '08 wings on my '07. They divert air to you if you want on hot days. Haven't taken them off since I installed them.
