Cool adjusting oil pressure relief spring

Having problems with low oil pressure so my first step is what I think is the easy first step, add the Beasley spring. I see a correlation between oil temp and oil pressure, don't know which is causing which but as the oil temp slowly rises to 230 degrees the oil pressure drops from 30psi to 15psi at 2000rpm. Have an oil cooler and I am trying to keep pressure up and move through the cooler. That is the background, here is my question, is there room to replace the spring without removing the cam plate or does the plat need to come off to install the spring. Thanks for any help you can give.

It can be done without pulling the plate. Tight but doable.

You do not have a problem. Harleys are about flow, not pressure. What you see is normal.

Beemervet is correct....Harleys are all about flow.....but if you want to replace the spring or put a button on top of the spring it can be done with out removing the cam plate, i just did it a month or so ago.

As long as your oil light is not coming on you have enough pressure.

not having problem with light coming on, just trying to keep temps below 250. I was riding two up and it was 100 degrees out but thought it should be cooler, max 230 degrees is what I would like to see.

The Beasley spring will increase your pressure. What are you running for oil?? When I started running Amsoil way back when, I seen a drop in temp of 20 degrees.

Increasing oil pressure will not decrease operating temps, if that is what you think will happen.

What year is the bike and how many miles on it? I ask because the only sympton I experienced that my cam chain tensioners were toast on my '04 @ 40K miles was fluctuating oil pressure. The tensioners and oil pump were replaced before there was a major engine failure.

In any event, if the bike has the pre-'07 tensioners, you can inspect them when you pull the cam cover.

My RK top end quieted down some when I put in a Baisley spring. I replaced mine when I had the cam chest apart but you could do it with just the cover off. Just make sure you have the spring compressed enough and the roll pin lines up with the back hole. I remember reading somewhere that people have knocked a chunk out of their cam plate by not have the pin lined up good and trying to drive it in.

Oh yeah..it's Baisley not Beasley.
