103 with Andrews 54H cams, first impressions
On my 08 SG I did the 103 BB with SE cast pistons, BigBoyz heads and Andrews 54H cams. I just picked the bike up tonight and only put 20 miles on it. It needs a tune. That will come during the week. But here is what I know now about the 54H cams. They work. At just about any RPM. Some one said this cam didn't work with true duals and a 6spd. BULL! After agonizing over cams for months I pulled the trigger on the Andrews 54H and from what I can tell so far I'm glad I did. 40 MPH in 5th. No problem though I wouldn't want to do that all day but it pulls fine. 55 MPH in 6th gear. No problem there either. Some of the comments I read about this cam had me thinking I was going to have to keep the rpm's at 3000 or above to make it drivable. Wrong again! The bike is perfectly comfortable running around at only 2000 rpm. Having said all this I never blasted in to it so I will hold my final judgement until the tuning is done. But I can't see anyway I won't be happy with the 54H cams. A special thanks to FaastEd for his encouragement and this line he shared with me, "You will lose nothing with the 54H. You will have everything you had before, just more of it". Did I forget to say they are quite as a mouse

I have basically the same build, 103, andrews 54H, my heads where done custom by the builder, I use stock head pipes into SE=II slip-ons. I had the build done becuase i ride 2 up most of the time and wanted more GRUNT to pass, get around slow traffic, get up to speed when loaded. It definately does that, I have yet to get back in for a complete tune but after 2500 miles so far I am definately happy and there is a definate difference.
Just wait til you turn the throttle hard after you get it broke in, it hauls a** but is as managable as stock.
Currently getting 40-42mpg riding 2 up every tank full.

I am using the 55G cams and was told the same thing by some guys, that I would lose power on the low side, I haven't had an issue with low end and the power from 2500 up is awsome, I still have a 5 speed so my bike is crusing at a little higher RPM'S anyway, most guys will tell you that the 54-55 grind cams are better suited to lighter bikes ie: Dynas. I'm sure if I rode two-up loaded it "might" not work but it works great for me and my riding style and thats what its all about anyway.
