Thanks dawg. I've got an 07. Had a bearing go bad after I had it on for 8000 mi. Now am having to replace the whole IDS. It's got a total of 13000 miles on it. It really got loose and when we took it off we found rubber debris and could see where it was scraping the inside of the sprocket. Bearing was so loose you could move it back and forth with your thumbs. Mech. thinks maybe since it was one of the first ones out for the 07's that maybe it was machined wrong. We'll see. Hope this isn't going be something that going to have to be replaced every couple of years. At least you guys with 08's and later our covered by warranty. For me it's 300 bucks just for the part.

I had my 07 in the dealer last week to replace the transmission main drive gear bearing. While the bike was in they also looked at the sprocket play and decided to pull the wheel for a look . We decided to replace the bearing and the isolators. The isolators part# 40278-08 were only $3.50 each for a total of $21.00 I have 38500 miles on the bike and 31000 on the IDS.
As cheap as the isolators are I will probably just replace them every second tire change from now on

Some have been lasting longer than others. Kinda like the old tensioners, never know.

Old thread but working on 2008 Ultra (abs).

All the old IDS threads I am reading....I have had none of those issues so wondering what I have missed as I picked this bike up w/ 5k used, now have over 40k and its run fine.

Were most of the IDS problems from folks retrofitting 2007 bikes? or did HD do something mid-year so some bikes were not affected?

was the 9285 bearing the issue? (2 row extended race) I have read of the 5 bolts shearing off for some on the 'bowl', rubber bits for others? looking for clarification. Thanks.

The retrofit P&A kit had bowl bearing problems. Back then I was working for H-D and we saw a bunch come in for the bearing issue.
