Default 2000 Engine Upgrade

Looking for opinions on motor upgrade....

Bike - 2000 Electra Glide Classic with 49,800 miles.

Dealer recommends following

3.875" cylinder kit
cam service kit
top end gasket kit
H/C standard 1550 piston
SE 211 cam kit
primary & secondary cam chain
compression release kit
primary & secondary tensioner assembly
chain guide

Above are all H.D parts and cost would be around $1060 for parts.

I was looking at the S&S Twin cam piston/cylinder kit; not sure what size cam though....

What I am looking for is better acceleration and low end torque along with a little more power for 2 up riding. I just bought this bike two months ago and this will be the bike for the wife and I to do some touring on when we have time next year.

any opions would be appreciated

thank you,

Rob

I have the same exact bike and last January I added AC kit, TD exhaust, PCIII, SS 510G cams and had it dyno'd. It has plenty of power running the hills. That is a nice shopping list you have there.

HD SE Flattops 3.875's
get a set of take off cylinders and have them bored
get a set of 2006 or later heads and have them ported to 9.5:1
Cometic top end gasket with .030 head gasket
HD cam service kit
Torrington B148 inner bearings
Andrews 26N chain drive conversion cams from Herko that comes in a kit with all the parts included
SEST tuner

Not sure of what pipes and A/C you have, but if stock then swap them out.

Mild cost effective build that will get you what you're looking for.

Go to Head-Quarters web site and look at the 98" package, I now have a 95" kit in but this winter I'll be doing a 98" kit with the 0039g cams, I'd send my heads to them or have WFOLarry at Larrysmotorcyclemachine do the heads, this will get you some awesome low end tq, or another option would be the HD 95" kit with a Herko conversion cam kit with some WFOLarrys stage1 heads and some andrews 26's or a hq 0034's or if poss a set of SE 204's.
You'll get alot of different directions to go in but in my opinion it's all about tq.

I was told that with that many miles a person would need to have the bottom end done because of the added power the bottom end couldn't take it, is this true?

Thank you everyone for your input. BTW, right now I am running the PCIII with V/H 2-1 Pro Pipe, H.D. stage I air cleaner. Hopefully, I will not have to rebuild the bottom end, otherwise, just don't have enough money budgeted for the work yet.

-have your cylinders bored to 3.875"
-HD 9.5:1 compression pistons (3.875")
-.030 Cometic Head gaskets
-S&S gear drive kit with S&S 570 cams (you have a 3.37:1 ratio final drive that really handles these cams well)
-Heads mildly ported with valve lift set to accept cams
-Andrews cam bearing install kit
-Timesaver push-rods
-New set HD lifters

Properly tuned (via PCIII) this build will put out around 95 HP/ 105 lbft TQ. Power band will be good for two riding.
