Default What's the difference between an Ultra Classic and a Road King Classic?

I realize there are lot of difference between a Road KIng Classic and an Ultra Classic. I'm only inquiring about the fairing only. Since a Road King Classis is a touring bike and has the same frame and other common parts with higher level touring bike such as an Ultra classic, is the wire harness the same and can a fairing be added without splicing wires to get a radio and gauges to work? I think I understand there is a quick change fairing and a permanently mounted fairing. Can you get a quick change fairing with all of the gauges and radio equipment an Ultra Classic has? Are there adapter harnesses?

While many parts are the same, the wiring harness is not. You can get an aftermarket batwing fairing for a RK, but it's impractical to do all the gauges etc. The speedometer would present LOTS of problems. If you want an Ultra, get an Ultra!

Ok, Thanks for the information. I wasn't going to do it. I was only wondering about all of the Road King with fairing on them.

Well I dont know "why" HD doesn't make a removable batwing that plugs into the harness. But they don't. Maybe the speedo is a problem, but a GPS that could be mounted along with other gauges provides speed so no big deal.

I wanted to do that as well but I'm settling for my RK as is. Maybe some other day I'll pickup an ultra

You can get a Detachable Fairing with a radio, but forget about adding all the gauges.
