Default XM Radio

I would like to add the XM radio to my ultra classic, but the $500.00 that Harley wants is nuts!!! Just for a add on to stock radio... Anybody know of a aftermarket add-on that does the same thing??? I put a handlebar mounted xm radio on bike now, but the vibration of bars doesn't help the Audiovox radio any!! Had to put rubber band around radio to keep in mount!!! They are not made for a bike!! Just want to add-on like Harley has but not the 500.00 dollar price!!!! Anybody have any ideas????? THANKS, Mark

You can get it for 400.00 if you go to a 20% off dealer!

I bought that unit for my SG and my dads Electra Classic. It cost us both a considerable amount more than the 500 bucks to install it and we did the install ourselves. We had to buy a harness, yours may come with it already on your bike since you have the ultra. we had to buy the antenna mount (pretty inexpensive) too.

The radio volume out put on the XM is very low compared to the CD player. If I had it to do over again I would have went with an after market radio and hooked it up to my handle bar controls. it would be cheaper and sounds better IMHO.

Isn't XM about to go out of business? I've read/heard about some really terrible experiences trying to deal with that company.

XM and Sirius combined and are one company now. Instead of just the XM radio, buy the Garmin Zumo 550 GPS made for motorcycles with an XM radio built in for about the same amount of money and get two for the price of one. Looking at it another way, you're down to $250 for the radio and ditto that for the GPS.

+1 on the Garmin. Have had it for about two years and love it.

I'm in the same boat as the OP, I've been looking for an XM module for months. I want the XM module but not at $500 plus harness. I know I can get one from Chicago HD for $400 plus the harness. I've tried to buy one off Ebay but they are running between three and four hundered dollars used and some of them are an earlier model number. For the difference I'm going to buy new. And to answer one of the OP's original questions I have looked for an aftermarket module and haven't been able to find anything. Santa knows I want one so maybe I'll find one under the tree Christmas morning.

yeah it's more than just $500 cause the harness is another $100-$130 if you don't have it. The bracket is only like $5.00. the set up is expensive but it is worth every penny, esp being about to cruise down the road at 80 mph and change the channels, volume, etc without ever taking your hands off the bars. No non HD aftermarket add-on can do that.

I 2nd the opinion on the Garmin Zumo 550. It gives you one unit for GPS with voice instructions, MP3 music, Mapping, XM Radio. It also can be transferred to your car for the GPS feature.

Installing it with the Kennedy kit from cyclegadgets.com allows you to run the system through your current radio with ease.

I now have over 12,000 miles of use of the Garmin 550 and it just keeps on ticking. Oh yes, and the map planning program that Garmin provides that allows you to download a route into the Garmin is "sweet"!

I have the iPhone with Sirius/XM mounted to my bars and plugged into the stereo. iPod would work just as well.
