Default Fairing lowers, How to

How do I remove the fairing lowers? 2005 Ultra. The owners manual gives no clue and it's gonna be in the 90's this weekend.

I've got an 01, but it should be the same. Take off the two plastic covers on the face of the lowers, and open compartment. Loosen the bolts on the "C" clip inside the stoarge box right off. Take off the bolts holding the bottom of the lower to the crash bar and spread the clip apart to remove it. You only need a red robby, a torx, and a socket to do it. Real easy, 5 minutes max.

Joe,

Are you talking about the fairing pocket covers? Must be a hidden bolt inside. Easy breezy...I hope. Or are you referring to the outer painted cover? Does it snap off? Not so easy breezy?

Take the lower torx bolts out from inside the fairing by where your toes go, then remove the blank off cover screws (four of them) and you will see a u-bolt type clamp around the highway bar.....remove that and it comes right off......

Very easy...just make sure you keep them in a safe place to not get them scratched up....

Your 2005 Ultra has louvers in the lower fairings that open up and allow air to flow through......

Do you have them on yours?

On the front of the lowers, at the top, there is a plastic small panel that covers the crash bar that is held in by two screws. When you remove this you will see a clip that wraps around the crash bar. The nuts you have to take off are inside the compartment, so just unsnap it, but you have to have the face cover off in order to get the lower off the bar. The clip on the bottom of the lower is visable, right at the bottom of the lower, by your toes.

It's really no big deal, after the first time. I remember when I first got my bike, everything seemed like an ordeal, and now I can rip her down in my sleep. In a few months you'll be the same, knowing all the nuts and bolts on her.

Got it! For o5's there is 3 fasteners per side. Inside the pocket are 2 nuts. Remove them and the outer upper facia comes off exposing the upper part of the tip over guard. Remove the lower torx and nut and vinyl coated clamp. Wiggle and finagle...viola! it's off.

Thanks all for your input.

My question is why would you take the lowers off if you have the new vented ones? I ride all year long with mine with no vents.

Terry,
1. My selling dealer suggested I remove them for the warmer seasons.
2. It is going to be hot this weekend and this will give me a chance to ride without them and to see how the bike looks that way.
3. Because I can.
4. Even with the lowers open it still holds alot of heat.
