Recalibrate the ECM after installing the SE Air Filter kit
I was told at the Harley Shop that I would not have to recalibrate the ECM if I only installed the SE Stage 1 Air Filter kit. After buying it, I was suprised to read in the instructions that Failure to properly recalibrate the ECM can result in severe engine damage. Who should I believe?
The bikes run lean from factory..increase the air going in or out makes bike leaner.
Read spark plugs for non-specific idea of lean..
I would consider something to add more fuel to bike.
Many options and prices.
I think the MOCO recommends a flash with intake. Much more air coming in....
That's what I did with my '04 RK, and it still ran borderline lean. A PC V w/canned map from Fuel moto solved that - no more spitting back through the intake off-idle. The engine runs cooler and stronger, and even sounds better. Maybe the closed loop EFI on the newer bikes will compensate for the AC without a flash?
The dealer told me to flash the exhaust upgrade but that the intake doesn't require a flash. That's what I did and haven't had any issues over the past couple years.

I was told the same thing by my Dealer service guy. But I was also told there was not much good in doing it without changing the mufflers and doing the ECM download . I did the stage1 w/K&N AF. I wasn't satisfied with the results, So I bought a set of FuelMoto's Jackpot's. I took the bike back and had the service guy check the download to make sure everything was alright. He said he richened it up a little. I like the performance better now. Better throttle response. I might add the PC-V from FuelMoto when hot weather get's here. If I had it to do over, I would get the package from Jamie @ FuelMoto. Great price and service, Those Dyna Tuned Jackpot's are IMO the best sounding and best looking Muffler's out there.
