Default backrest diagram??

Buddy of mine has an '08 street glide. The spring in his backrest is screwed up. Anyone have a diagram showing how the spring is supposed to be attached?

Here's the diagram for the non-adjustable backrest and it shows where the one and only spring is located: http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...ts/-J04731.pdf

Is this the type of backrest your friend has or is his the more complicated adjustable type?

Here's a link to diagrams of the adjustable type: http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...ts/-J03643.pdf

I see a spring next to the slot where the backrest pad inserts into the mechanism. I've seen lengthy discussions about this mechanism being a problem and ways to fix it. Suggest you do a forum search to find help if this is the type of backrest you are dealing with.

Thanks, Hognot.
I'm pretty sure his is not adjustable. He bought the bike used, and the pad itself is what's messed up, not the stuff under the seat. The previous owner has a spring kinda rigged near the pad itself. The link you gave shows a spring at the bottom of the rods, so that must be what's missing on his. I'll pass the link along to him. Thanks again.
