Default Real oil capacity on 2009 Streetglide stock 96"

I read posts saying folks put in 4 quarts and this puts them midway on the dipstick.

My bike shows 1/4" overfull when I put in 3.5 quarts after a change (and running it some). I change the oil hot and let it drain out for 30 minutes on the side stand.

I know what the book says. But is there a number out there to check the accuracy of the dipstick? I have the stock stick and the digital oil temp stick, they seem in sync to me.

Maybe it is just because I am not using HD oil on those HD dipsticks? ;-)

Same here, 3.5. Of course there's a bunch still in my oil cooler at that point too, so not sure what the "total capacity" is of the overall system.

Doesn't the 09 and later have a cut out area in the oil pan for the exhaust to cross under the bike? I was looking at that on a 09 oil pan that a friend is using on his 06 to run a 09 pipe system. I think that cut out area will reduce oil capacity a little bit in comparison to other years. Maybe some of the guys stating 4 quarts are talking about pre 09 model years?

When I changed mine, I put in 3 qusrts and that put me at midway on the dipstick.

Why only go half-way on the dipstick? Less oil means hotter oil....

Because if you fill it all the way up it usually pukes out of the air cleaner and gets oil all over the right side of the bike (and your leg sometimes). Halfway on the dipstick cold is usually at the full mark when hot and is what the dipstick indicates.
