Anybody else have trouble getting the oil filter off? I even went out and bought the oil filter wrench with the hole cut in it but there is a sensor or something in front of the filter and I can't get the wrench on. I guess I will just have to take the ?sensor? off.

 

There are two phillips head screws holding in the sensor. move it out of your way and you will have more room to get to the filter. If all else fails, drive a long screwdriver through the filter and unscrew the filter. You only need to get it started. Filters are installed hand tight.

 

Happens to me occasionally, I use either a large pair of channel locks or sometimes just punch a screwdriver through it with a hammer and wrench it off.

 

A strap wrench might give you enough leverage just to get it going. They are cheap enough and if you get a thin one you will not have to remove the sensor. However I am curious about the filter wrench. The one i have has a hole that sort of fits around the sensor and you can get on with the sensor in place. You cannot turn it much without the sensor and hole edges coming into contact but usually the amount you can turn is enough to free up the filter so that it can be removed by hand although sometimes I do have to reposition the wrench and move it a little more

 

I use the end cap style wrench and never have a problem with the sensor, it's the one with the cutout. You only can turn the filter a little bit at a time and then you have to re-position the wrench but it's no big deal.

 

Large pair of Channel locks for me too.

 

I run a K&N 171c It has a 17mm Nut on the end.

 

once you finally get the filter off, use a K&N filter as a replacment (They have a hex-head nut on the end so you can use a common socket wrench to remove.)
Normally, if a filter has been installed hand tight, no big problem to remove.

 

ive got an old aluminum cap wrech i bought for an old chevy years ago pulled it out and it fit no problem and cleared the sensor with plenty to spare il look at it later and post if it has a pn on it.

 

Yep. I have had to do the same on bike and cars. Sometimes you have to make a handle...ie...screwdriver througsh the middle. It can be messy, but it works. Just make sure when you put the new one on it hand tight with a little oil on the seal
