anyone have the locking doors for your lowers? if so are they water proof?

 

I have no first hand experience, but I have been told no - not 100% waterproof. That said, I too have been comtemplating a set but 200 clams for these (even 150 on the net/discounters) is really really way steep. I'm so suprised that an aftermarketer has not jumped on this one and provided a decent set for around 80 bucks.

Works very well, but not waterproof, although I have never had a problem with water in the glove box with them.

 

I've been kicking around making a pair for the last couple years. Pretty simple concept and fabbing them would be easy/cheap. No way are they worth the $200 asking prices. I think $80 bucks is too high.
You can make the door water proof, and the designs I've seen try to do that. Problem is, the lowers aren't totally waterproofed. Although close.
I'm not so worried about the locking feature, since it won't take much to open even those. I'm more concerned with convenience. I hate those damned snaps.

 

I have the lockable doors from eglidegoodies and they are waterproof. Don't know about the version offered by HD.

 

Here's a simple down and dirty sketch.
I think it would be an easy DIY too.
Could also add a simple foam gasket and/or a lock if desired.
Also my thoughts are to two-sided tape the original cover to the door.
Or get crazy with leather or whatever.

Hogtrough covers look pretty interesting. However, still no way to grab something out of there mid-flight.

Something that locks, with a hinge, waterproof - and has an option to be opened without a key while rolling... all for around 80 bucks.

Geez - do I have to write the business plan too?

 

thats my problem, 200 bucks for some plastic? i dont really care if they lock, just want to be able to keep things dry. the snaps on mine suck

 

Eglidegoodies has hinged sets both side and bottom hinged. Expensive IMO but they have them.

As far as opening on the fly, I'll bet the Harley push button they use on fuel doors would work. Its the same style lock and button. But again EXPENSIVE solution.

The saps SUCK but its typical Harley Davidson.
They know they suck but they put them on there anyway and sell you a rediculously over priced solution to the problem.
Thats the Harley way to suck you for every penny they can...................

Like always......I love my bike .....I just hate the people that make them.
