Default DOT 5 instead of DOT 4 ?

I went to the dealer to get the fluids, etc for front brakes since I was changing my cables. Told them I had a 09 FLHX and needed brake fluid. Got home and pulled old cables and installed new and realized I got DOT 5 from the dealer and the reservoir and manual say DOT 4... Can I use the 5? I thought that Brake fluid was one of those "don't mix and don't change" I won't be able to get to the HD shop till next week, so if I can use the DOT 5 that would be helpful.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!

If there's one thing I've learned in my tender years, it's not to mix DOT nbr brake fluids. If the label on the master cyl. says "use DOT 4" then that is all I would use.

DOT 5 actually has a higher boiling point, and you can use it but you will need to do a full system flush and flush a few more times makeing sure the lines are clear of DOT 4. I have done this with good results on some of my cars, and if its truely DOT 5 it should be a different color too.

DOT 5.1 is compatable with Dot 3 and 4. DOT 5 is not. Go to Auto Zone and pick up any DOT 4.

Question

O.K. Now that we know not to mix the two. Why did they go back to DOT 4. Also DOT 4 will wreck your paint if spilled on it. But why did they go back to DOT 4?????
