I cleaned the connections between the PCIII and ECM. I tried to follow the manual on how to adjust the cold and warm idle. In both cases, the problem persisted.

I hooked a laptop up to the PCIII and brought up the software. The throttle values were way out of whack from the saved values. When I attempted to reset them with the throttle fully closed and open, the number range was thin. So thin, in fact, that the software urged me not to reset it. This suggests to me a throttle sensor problem.

In any case, I am making arrangements for the bike to back to the local independent tomorrow. I will let them know the symptoms and what I have done. Will keep you all posted on how things work out.

Turned out to be that the mechanical component of the Idle Speed Lever (right side of the intake), which is connected to the Idle Speed Control Actuator. The mechanical portion needed to get some gummy material cleaned up and everything worked fine after. Fortunately, only a half hour charge for labor. It was something I would never have found in a million years, given my relatively inexperienced wrenching skills. Glad I learned about it, though, and its fix.

I'm not sure you need to replace something. It could be that your cold idle is set too low? Check your cold idle screw settings. The details are in your shop manual.

Found this link on cleaning your IAC. Might be worth a try.

I have a 08 Ultra Classic Electra Glide and yesterday I noticed it idling fast when I left in the morning. I live in Michigan and it is cool in the morning so I didn't think a lot of it. Figure it needed to warm up. Today all afternoon the idle would run close to 2k. If I turned back on the throttle making the cruse control light come on green it would drop down the 12k as long as I held it there. So, to get to the point I read this post on turning the ignition on for 10 second then off for 10 seconds and repeat 4 times. I went out and tried it and it worked like a charm. After the fourth time waited the 10 seconds, turned on the ignition, started it up and my idle revved up to around 19 and then dropped right to 950 as normal. This is a great forum. Thanks Much.

I have an 00 Ultra Classic with similar problem. After starting it will run high then I shut it off and restart, it acts like it wants to die. Seems the idle is too low. I'll try the reset.
