If I were you I'd just get the cylinder kit. You can tell the cylinders s&s has are much more heavy duty than the stock cylinders. Plus the pistons are made for those cylinders.
Thanks for the help. Initially I was just planning on doing a SE 255 cam swap so the project has grown and I am trying to keep costs down. I will call HQ as well as look for machine shops in the Boise area.
I have been looking at the S&S 106 big bore kit. They suggest that it isn't safe to bore the stock 96 inch cylinders to this size.
Has anyone bored out their cylinders to use the 3.927 pistons?
Well, duh - I sell 106's, I am of course going to say that 107 is not safe to do. Actually, the 106 is sort of a "bastard" size. Not many out there.
You will find that the 107 is a rather common bore size and a lot of engine builders find no issues with doing this. Others will swear that it is not the right thing to do, but...I am still waiting for someone to say their engine failed due to thin cyl walls, poor heat dissipation or other supposed problems with 98/107 bores. I have built some 107s and they have turned out well without issues.
