on my last oil change for my 05 road king i switched to mobil v twin synthetic(about $60.00 for a full change) harley recommends a change every 5000 miles. i hear the synthetics can go longer, what are others who have gone synthetic doing?

I go around 5K also, I know I'd never go that far on HD dino oil, it runs out like water after 2K.

 

I've been using Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w/50 since 2000 in a variety of Harleys:

3000-4000 miles oil and filter changes for me during riding season (mid Feb-early Dec). I ride frequently--around town, on country roads, and make 3-4 trips per year (long distance for me) of about 500-1000 miles.

If I make mostly short trips, I go with 3000 miles. If I make long trips more often I stretch the interval to 4000 miles on synthetic.

It may be a waste of money on oil/filters, but with an air cooled motor, I'd rather change more often than needed.

I never go more than 6 months without changing oil and filter.

That's just my .02 and it has worked well for me over the years.

Every 3 thousand miles. All three holes here. Synthetic Mobil 1 20-50. Redline shock proof in the tranny, and redline primary..
Idk why. Probably a piece of mind thing lol.

Transmission: Mobil 1 75w/90, 75w/140 synthetic (5k miles)

Primary: Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w/50 (5k miles)

I'm sure all the good brands changed at regular intervals keep the mechanical bits happy.

 

Engine (Mobil 1 V-Twin) every 5k.

Tranny (Redline Heavy Shockproof) every 10k.

Primary (Formula Plus) every 10K.
