Thanks I think I'm going to use the J P cycles plug #300-077 without the isolator. That looks super easy. Do you remove the whole thing and plug the stock plugs back together when you don't need it?

 

I would recommend using the isolator. If anything shorts out on the trailer, it won't affect your bike wiring if you use the isolator. Otherwise, if something pulls the trailer circuit down (short to ground), your bike goes with it.

 

I've done a bunch of these set-ups in the past.
You can just 'hide' the pigtail under the tourpak or saddlebag when you don't need it. No need of removing it. I usually attach the plug to the hitch mount...then it's out of the way.
When you sell the bike, just unplug the 'converter' and replug the harness and is as good as new!!

 

+1 that is what I did as well. You can just unplug the the connector and plug it back into it's stock position, very easy.

If running led lights on your trailer you do not need the isolator. And if by the very slight chance a short happens in your trailer your bike wont get hurt, you will blow a fuse only. I have seen many of the isolators themselves go bad and then people scratching thier heads because they think its something else.
