Default Finally got GPS - my mounting solution

I finally picked up a GPS for the bike and car. Got a Nuvi 550. Doesn't have all the bells-n-whistles that the Zumo's have but it has enough and is also waterproof. I've followed the GPS mounting threads for a while. I had an idea on where I wanted to mount mine but had to wait till I got a GPS to try it. I'm sure someone else has done this but I haven't seen it posted.

I bought this RAM mount and mounted it to the bottom metal plate of my fairing pouch. This places the GPS just below the left pouch. It covers the fuel gauge but I don't use that as much as the mileage anyway. If I need to, I figure I can always swap the fuel gauge with the temp gauge. I don't know if the Zumo's will work as well since they are bigger but the Nuvi works great. Here are some pics.

Nicely done. Good solution with no added holes in your fairing. I love the RAM mounts.

Now that is slick! Just bought the 2 pouch deal and haven't even mounted it yet. Better to drill it than the fairing.

I've noticed a little movement if I hit a bump but nothing I would worry about. Just to be on the safe side, I ordered the Marine Grade Aluminum ram mount instead of the plastic.

FWIW - when I first got the pouches, they vibrated a bit so I put some rubber furniture stoppers between the pouch plate and the top of the faring. I also pinched the hooks on the pouch plate where they clip to the faring edge so that they were snug.

If that doesn't work I use a Ram mount Ball that attaches to my mirror stem.
Kinda the same idea I didn't want some bracket wrapped around my handle bars.

I have never used a GPS on my bike before last Sunday. I borrowed my wife's for a ride where I needed to get where I was going. I just used the suction cup and stuck it on the chrome lid over my gas cap. I don't know if it would stay there all day or not, but it stuck there fine for this ride.

I always crapped all over using a GPS on a bike, preferring to wander around using the grid method till I get where I am going. But I gotta admit it was a little nice knowing I was gonna make it where I was going on time.
