The battery may be nearing its end of life.
Compression releases help quite a bit with the stock starter.
A heavy duty starter would be better.
What is your compression ratio?

Ditto. Test battery first. When they're hot they'll kick..... (start)..... hard. Releases were an afterthought for me too. The thing runs so good I can't bring myself to tear it down again.

Bet you, that is his problem!!! SE255 cams without compression releases = a no,no!!! You need a great tune, with a good tunning device, & comp releases, to help with the hot starts with that early intake close cam!!!

I had this problem too! First, as said above, check all your electrical connections and battery strength. Looks like you have the SERT. First thing I would try is adjusting the values in your Cranking Fuel Table in the higher temperature range. That made a big difference on two of my bikes. I went for the absolute fix and also did the SE Comp and Harley HO starter on my 103 with 255 cams. Hot start problem fixed and it seems to shift easier.

Man what a god aweful expense to fix a problem. I have a 510 cam for 25k miles with out ever an issue, amd from what ive seen here on the forum ive got better numbers than almost all the engines with a 255 cam.

The SE255 are fine with stock compression but some with the 10:1 flat-top pistons (Stage II) have hot-start problems like the OP.
