Removing a Tour Pak on an Ultra

Removing a Tour Pak on an Ultra
The wife wants to be a little more comfortable on longer trips and like the idea of my upgrading to an ultra. The problem for me is I'm not ready for a full blown Geezer Glide yet.
Is it possible to remove the tour pak on an ultra for daily commuting? I know they have the antenna mounts, 12V plug, and lights mounted on/in the tourpak. Is everything hard wired or are there plugs you can simply take apart and take the tour pak off?
I could add a tour pak on my SG but she wants the added amenities that an ultra has. I'm not gonna complain if she wants me to get a new bike but I'd like to have a little sleeker look if possible.

You can do 2 things, add a Tour Pak to your current bike, or buy the Ultra and add the detachable kit, and the wiring harness. You can also just modify your current harness like this link... https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...etachable.html . You will have pretty much the same look both ways. With the Tour Pak kit for the Ultra it does give you the relocation kit for the antenna and a few other things that make it easier.

Since your bike is almost new, seems like it would be far less expensive to add some of the features of a Ultra to your Street Glide, such as the Tour-Pak and rear speaker pods. You'll also benefit from being able to remove the Tour-Pak for a far sleeker look.
That said, every time I went to replace whatever Ultra I had at the time and thought I'd go with a SG, always came home with an Ultra.

My plan was to make the tour pak detach on our Ultra as well, but it is just too dang convenient so I am leaving mine on. Adding the short antenna's and SG windshield gave me back the more sporty look, oh and dumped the whitewall tires for black E3'S helped as well!
Good Luck with your decision.

Weigh the cost difference. Going 'detachable' is a GOOD thing. A tour pak, detachable rack, and docking hardware will cost ya $1200-$1500 minimum. Then, all associated ammenities....like if you want rear speakers (HD), you have to get the harness along with them. Add the intercom....there's MORE cost again. I started with a Standard...and added the tour pak, ect. I like my bike...I like what Ive done.
IF I had it to do again....I probably would have traded for at least a Classic. What Ive spent 'after the fact' surely exceeds that amount.
Either way...if she's wanting more room...consider a "George Anderson" relocater for the tour pak. Best money you'll spend with this upgrade.
Just some thoughts..and Good Luck!!!

Did you get the 4 point bracket for your backrest or the 2 point? If you already have the 4 point, all you need is a color matched Tourpack and the brackets. For the SG there are no wires to hook up except for the antenna. There are no lights. I use an in fairing antenna and a 10" dummy on the fender so I don't have the antenna hooked up on the Tourpack. It's easy to remove the backrest and install the tourpack and vice-versa.

Here's what you need:
Tour pack lock kit-http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...wl_listing.jsp
Color Matched Tour Pak-http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...wl_listing.jsp
Detachable Tour Pak Rack-http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US
4 Point Docking Kit-http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...wl_listing.jsp
If you want lights and speakers, it will cost you quite a bit extra. You could buy the Ultra model tour pack for an extra $150 and get the lights, but the speakers are extra.
