Default New RKC Questions

Hey all,
Just bought a 2010 RKC, and I have been riding a 98 Fatboy for a number of years and got used to it's sounds and just want to check that some of what I hear on my RKC is normal.

I hear a lot more valve noise than I am used to. It doesn't sound bad, just loud. In first gear the tranny whines a bit, especially on accel and decel. The shifter makes a noticeable "clunk" when I shift. I'm not stomping on the shift lever, but I am surprised at how loud it is.

Are these sounds normal, or do I have an issue that needs to be addressed?

Thanks,

I know exactly what you mean, I notice the same thing switching between my NT and RK. Those things you describe sound perfectly normal to me, my King has been doing it for 4 years with zero problems.

It's normal, but you can reduce the tranny noise and clunk with a good synthetic gear oil. I use Mobil 1 70/140

Normal.

My valve train noise seemed to quiet down about 50% after the first couple thousand miles. I also switched up the oil to Mobil 1 V-Twin Syth.

The clunk will also reduce after first adjustment and fluid change with a good synthetic.

Normal.

If your FatBoy didn't have a windshield, that makes a big difference also. It kicks engine noise back into your face

Probably the windshield is bringing the normal noises to your attention. You wouldn't have noticed as much on the Fat Boy without a windshield. Is the clunk on shifting into first gear when starting (normal) or when driving? Abnormal. If the latter get it checked.

Sounds like normal twin cam noise, you didn't mention miles but they tend to quiet down some after some miles.Syn oil will also help.Get used to the trans clunk.
