Default 2011 Changes to HD's SE SuperTuner software

As they have for the past 3-4 years, the tuning software is only made available through the Race Catalog.

Looks like HD is up to their usually interesting tricks for generating revenue. They apparently now have 3 different versions of the software.

1) On page 12 they have a new version called the "SE Street Performance Tuning" software for $329. Looks like they eliminated the ability for the rider to modify their bike's map independent of the dealership. You can store performance runs on the VCI and download them to your PC, but you can't use the data to improve your map. Essentially this version of the software is nothing more than "portal" that allows you to pay the dealer to download maps to your bike if you make engine upgrades. Complete waste IMO except for dealers to generate additional revenue off of non-tech savvy owners.

To make improvements you'll need the full software package outlined below. This new Tuning software appears to be a nod to the EPA that limits the ability of a bike owner to modify their bike's fuel map thereby making it non-EPA-compliant. This software is a complete and utter waste of $. Whatever software you are considering, don't waste your $ on this package.

2) On page 29 they also still offer the "SE Pro Super Tuner Software" for $459. This appears to be the unlimited version of the tuning software that they offered last year, except they have separated the "Smarttune" tuning feature for 2011.

3) And the third version includes "SmartTune" with the SEPST for an additional $29.

Looks like HD is trying to generating more revenue by breaking the software up into various versions. I feel fortunate that last year's version of the SEPST included Smarttune and cost less than the entire package does for 2011.

The only version of this software that now makes sense is #3. I suspect TTS Masterttune is likely to generate alot more sales given the new pricing.
