I'm about to do this on my '09 in 1,500 miles. Thanks for the visual, always helps. I'm hoping I'm able to get the locking ring back into place using a blunt object...

You can change the filter without removing all from the tank. Just get it out so you can disconnect one hose (let the pressure off) and then remove the horseshoe clip. Take the halves apart and remove the old and put the new in.

The tool can be made out of SCH 40 PVC....Trace a copy of the ring and make it up later....Hope this helps.....Jerry

Good Job!! Thanx for the pictorial! What tipped you off that you needed to? change it other than milage? Was it hesitating, or?

No it was running fine, the manual says change @ 25K. Was thinking about it in desolate Nevada last trip so I changed it. $13 and a little time is worth it to me. Good idea Jerry on the PVC to make a wrench, will look into that.

Can you tell me why you decided to do this? I have an '09 and it seems a bit premature to be changing this. Did you have a problem? I have an '09, reason why I'm asking.

Nevermind, I should have read the whole thing first.

I am going to try and do this over the weekend, any other sage advise?

I don't think my dealer will lend me any tools to get this thing back on, so I am going to have to bang the cam back on or go to home depot and get some pvc, I just am not sure on the pvc once I trace out the notches how would I grab it to turn? Thanks
