I recommend the Marquette Cafe in Marquette, IA. There is small, cool, car ferry at Cassville.

If you can ride on Highway 162, it is awesome!
A lot of bikers stop at the Great River Road House on Hwy 35 by De Soto.
If you have to go via La Crosse, from the Dells area (Baraboo), Hwy 33 to La Crosse is nice. There are lots of awesome roads in the SW area of the state.

The Great River Roadhouse in Desoto is very good (especially their pizza) but I think The Spring Lake Inn located 4 miles N of PDC is better (no pizza but great burgers and much more.) It is a fairly small country tavern in a white building. Don't blink or you'll miss it. I think GRR gets more of the toursits but the SLI gets more of the locals. You really can't go wrong with either one.
The apple orchards to the east in Gays Mills are a great stop where you will find much more than apples to fill your saddlebags.

Great tips! Thanks!! Going from the Dells via 90 to the river then heading up North along the river via 53/35 to Nelson, crossing over the river and back down via 61 to GRR thru LaCross to PDC for the night. Looks like just under 300mi from the Dells without getting lost, yeah right! that is half the fun. Thanks again for the tips!

Definitely try and stop at Petes hamburgers on mainstreet in downtown PDC. www.peteshamburgers.com. Grab a couple of burgers there and take them down the street to the Sawmill for a beverage.
Spring Lake Inn has a very good prime rib but can be very busy on friday and saturday nights.

Both sides of the river are a great ride, lot of good info here.I've never done much up around Prairie du Chien except cross the bridge and fill my tank...After eating that delicious buffett at Brietbach's in Balltown around mid afternoon,I'm not hungry until breakfast the next day lol.We usually start out early in the morning and get home late, right around a 450 mile round trip for us.Was out there last April, been pulled other directions since then....

enjoy the trip, you will be blown away with sights along the river on the Iowa side, never knew we had such good views this close to home. We had lunch at a place in Lacross called Buzzard Billys it was excellent, cajun food plus burgers and such.
Check out PDC website they have motorcycle roads on there also.

i'd take 33 to Lacrosse from the dells. you can pick it up just a little south of the dells.
33 will take you thru wildcat.
even better, from the dells, go south on 12, pick up 136 west in baraboo, 136 will run back into 33...
double even better....pick up 154 west while on 136, then 23 north to 33...this way you get to skip reedsburgh...(lots of traffic lights)
