Talking **HOW TO** True Duals at home

Ok... I know this subject has been, well, beat to DEATH BUT... No body posts pics, so I figure what the hell, why not..

First thing's first.. get some freeze plugs (2), Autozone was the closest to me so I went there, Part # 555-030.1 ($.99 each), if no Autozone or available cross reference, they are 1 5/8 ", come in steel and brass (I got steel) and are for a Small Block Chevy (350ci (5.7L) V8).

Now remove your hear shield on the right rear head pipe..

Next mark out the area you intend to remove.. I used masking tape, but a sharpie will work just fine. You want to cut between the heat shield mounting clamps and not in a bend (the pipe is more of an oval there).

Next, cut the section of pipe out of the way and set it aside..

Now comes the easiest part, take your freeze plugs and slide them up inside the pipes (one in the top, and one in the bottom) if they give you any resistance just put a socket inside it and give em a good tap with a hammer. Once installed they should look like this.

I opted to tack weld them in, some people have simply left them alone after pounding them in, and some have used band clamps, all work the same it is merely a personal preference. The next decision you need to make is whether or not to re-install the piece you cut out, I did not, but again, that is a personal preference, it will not be visible once the heat shield has been replaced.

Finished product..

Taking my time, and drinking a few beers, it took me a total of 32 minutes, not stopping for beer and BS time, maybe 20 minutes. This mod takes very little skill at all and is a great way to cool down the bike and pick up some awesome sound from the left side.

your post and method got me thinking. it would be cool to add a section of pipe back in there with a valve in it to go either way......

Digging the valve idea.. It gives it more of that "harley" sound, the potato potato effect. I have not ridden it yet because some Idiot decided to rear end me and my bike is down, but most say you do not notice a difference at all.

I got a 2 into 1 supertrapp.
so my question is where do you put your fishing pole when the left muffler is hanging there?
my pole fits perfect under there. never gonna do duals again. left bag is an ice chest right bag is for hot food. can't beat it.
got a open baffle for when I feel like talking to the Huntington beach police about decibels and safety and unpaid fines. that always leads to a discussion about my helmet and some how leads to everything I own laying on the sidewalk while he admires how much storage there is on a dresser. yep my bike sounds like a cop bike now. jealous of you urban guys who can do what you want. was in utah a couple weeks ago, saw guys on quad with guns and no helmets wrong side of the road drinking beer. you wouldn't get 2 miles down any road around here b4 5-0 rolled up on you with big back up.
