I've had good luck with "inch" size substitute wrenches in the really big sizes. Tractor Supply Company has them pretty cheap. Which one fits the current generation rear axle nuts? I think they're 36mm metric.

Second question: Is there a good DIY thread with pictures on belt tension procedures for the current generation bikes with the snail cam adjusters?

 

1.417 inches = 36 mm, 1 15/32nds may work

 

Two 12" Crescent Wrenches works fine for me. I tighten by hand which IMO is right at 100 ft. lbs. torque, LOL. Adjust belt so it has 3/8 - 7/16" play works fine also but not by the book so I'm sure some here won't approve. Some of this stuff isn't rocket science.

 

1 7/16 is as close as your going to get, use a 6 point socket

 

Could probably pick-up the right size at Harbor Freight fairly cheap. Won't be for everyday use, but for occasional use would work fine. If you use it alot then shame on you, call the Snap On man and get the right one. I think Snap-on and Sears even sells sockets individually so you don't have to buy a bunch you don't need. If there's one thing I learned in this life is use the right tool for the right job.

36 mm is pretty common for CV shaft nuts, so you should be able to pick up a Lisle, Craftsman, or other consumer grade socket for reasonable money, under 20 bucks

I know you're not asking but there is a 36mm wrench in your bike tool kit if you have one...

autozone or advance should have a socket at a decent price. How often would you use a 1 7/16 anyway, just get the 36 and be right.

 

A medium size pipe wrench will work.
