I have run it with the open end cap, exhaust sound is loud in that configuration but works better with the closed end cap. The choice is yours but don't rule out the Supertrapp in your decision process. Ask a couple tuners what they think about the ST. The go with what you want & what your wallet will allow.
I agree with the Supertrapp 2-1. Also White Bros E-pipe 2-1. Also Thunderheader 2-1(loud). I had Bub Bad Dogs on my Softail. Changed to a Thunderheader right on the dyno. Picked up 14 HP. Supertrapp & E- pipe about the same.

The engine builders I have spoken with that really make horsepower prefer D & D.

My brother loves D & D and I like the quality, look and sound. He has a ghost pipe but I think I would just go for the single look.

What Tanker2 should have told his friend in December of 2010 was Sound is subjective,
and performance is the objective of a high performance exhaust system. When looking
for the maximum horsepower & torque that can only be used at a track where every 10th
of a second counts. Then it must be straight open pipes, that being said, for street riding
then sound is the objective. Tanker2's friend should go to a bike night to listen exhaust
of other bikes, and ask the riders how the exhaust system performs on the street. Go to
your local Dealer on a Saturday, most riders love to talk about their bikes and how they
preform. Over the years all the information that this post has generated all most all would
want a 2 into 1 for the street and a good tuner with some dyno time.

That is all I am going to say about that.....John
