Hard to tell from the pictures. Is the metal coming off the inside of the gear? Is there wear on the shoulder of the inner gear?

It looks like things are getting hot in there. What do you think?

You have what is called fretting. There is metal to metal contact and the oil is not getting to the shaft. rbabos and others have cut grooves into the SE comp. I plan on doing the mod to my SE comp prior to the spring when it comes out of hibernation. Below is a pic of how to do it.

I saw the exact same rusty looking oil/paste when i just took my 96 out of my Road Glide for a 120R install. Figures that i put the new SE compensator right in that came with the crate motor. The one i saw the rusty looking sht on i just put in during the summer, noticed it when i was taking the primary off for the engine swap. I also had Redline MTL in the primary looks like tranny fluid red tint same stuff they market as primary fluid. Wonder what the long term damage is with this left unattended?

Thumbs up Thanks Dawg

As usual, thank you for your help. I thought about the other one after I posted this. Sometimes you just have to keep trying various combinations of words to find what it is your searching for.

When is HD going to own up to their screw-ups. First we have to replace the stock comp with the SE version, now we have to modify that ourselves so it doesn't fail. What's wrong with this picture folks.........
