Default looking at a 2011...96 VS. 103????

im looking at getting rid of my night train and stepping up to a street glide. Rented one on vacation and loved it. Went to the dealer and was looking at it but after talking to several people i dont know what to do. What is everyones opinion on doing the "power pack upgrade" or whatever the hell they call it. Its an extra 2k you get the 103, abs and security. I dont care about the abs or security. I just want to know if its worth it for the 103? can anyone notice a big difference between the 96 and 103? Ive talked to a couple people and said they dont notice much of a difference, even with the same bikes side by side they were saying off the line they were the same, the 103 started to pull on the 96 over 50 mph. BUT this is just the opinion of the guys on the 2 bikes, id like some other opinions if you guys dont mind. By the way great site tons of useful info!!

Have 2 friends that bought new Street Glides this fall and they where both talked into skipping the power package and build it up from 96 cubic inch.

I'd go for the 103, though it might make more sense in your case to spec out a 103 'build' instead of buying the Power-Pak 103 (meaning, pick a cam, adjustable pushrods, +.030 gasket, pistons, jugs, etc. and have your dealer do the install for you. Not quite as clean as getting it from the factory, but might save ya a few $'s [or not].

the 103 also has automatic compression releases which is a nice feature, with a 103 you can do exhaust, cams, air cleaner and tuner and be over 100hp & trq without getting into the heads, the 103 also comes with an oil cooler standard

The power pack is worth it if ABS is important to you. I don't have it, but recently saw a rider pull a quick stop in the rain. Was amazed at how well it worked.

If ABS isn't of value to you, then you could save a bit doing the bb to the 96 later.

Would also think resale might be better on the factory power pack vs. an upgrade.

Yep...In hindsight... I would have waited on a 2011 to get the 103. There really isn't MUCH difference in power but you are sitting there ready FOR it. Wouldn't have been much extra as I got a SG with ABS/security. You'll REALLY like the ABS and that is worth the money alone IMO.

Its actually a good deal to get the power pack. Security, ABS and 103" as well as an oil cooler and auto compression releases.

Just my opinion.

+1 Stage1, a little head work, .030 head gaskets & cams & you got a real nice running bike!
